The Forkmade guide

Good recipe. Your version.

Forking just means making your own copy of a recipe. Keep what you like, change what you need, and save it for next time.

Three steps. No technical know-how.

  1. Find your starting point.

Open a public recipe you like, or one you already own. Sign in and choose Fork recipe to create your own copy.

  2. Make your changes.

Swap an ingredient, dial down the spice, or rewrite a step. Update the ingredients and instructions together so your recipe is ready to cook.

  3. Save it for next time.

Save your changes and find your fork in My Recipes. Use it in your meal plan whenever you want to cook your version again.

Same starting point. Different dinner.

For example, a curry you like could become a curry you love.

Original recipe

Coconut curry tofu with green beans

Tofu, green beans, coconut milk, and curry paste.

Your fork

Your milder mushroom curry

Swap the green beans for mushrooms, use less curry paste, and adjust the cooking steps to match.

A few things worth knowing.

The original stays intact.
Your edits belong to your copy. Changes to the original won’t overwrite your fork, and the connection to the source recipe stays attached so credit travels with it.
You can keep improving it.
Editing your recipe saves a new version in its history. Compare changes or restore an earlier version if last week’s attempt tasted better. Fork it again when you want to keep two separate variations.
Check who can see your copy.
New forks follow your recipe privacy setting. Forks with imported content start private and need confirmation that you have permission to publish before they can become public.
